Kim Lee is an origami artist based in Birmingham, England and has been exhibiting her work since 2006.

With 20 years of experience in the medical profession, Kim is interested in the use of Art and its application in Health and Well-being. The art combines her ongoing interest in all aspects of art with her practical knowledge of the general and mental health profession.

In 1996, Kim started to study art and starting collating a portfolio at Bourneville College. Having updated her Maths, English and IT skills, Kim prepared herself for Higher Education and in 2004, she achieved her BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art from the University of Central England, Birmingham.

From her Chinese heritage, Kim has been able to hone her origami skills and push the boundaries of this traditional craft in her fine art practise. Experimenting with book forms and paper engineering gives Kim the freedom to explore new avenues of size and scale. She experiments with different types of paper including recycled consumer products and creates abstract or calligraphic forms and shapes from these recycled publications. Kim's intention is to exploit paper folding techniques: using sculptural forms as three dimensional building material, she extends the conventional boundaries of origami in a more abstract and conceptual way.

Currently, Kim is involved with numerous School and Community projects ranging from Staff Training at Birmingham Children's Hospital to demonstration workshops for Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, The Public, West Bromwich and Bilston Craft Gallery, West Midlands.

Social engagement is an important process in using Kim's art form as a powerful tool for expression and personal growth. Through the paper craft workshops she endeavours to inspire others and help them develop his or her individual voice.
